CPC reinstatements

You were denied at all locations you put in for ? Or just the location removed by three levels?
Well, I only put in for one (4 levels higher). I was later emailed a denial of that facility but offered two other local towers (both same level), one of those being my original tower.

I will say that HQ will only approve you to go back to a facility of equal level you certified at or lower. Even if you certified at a 9, there’s no going to a 12 on reinstatement.
I quit from a 6 and got hired at a 12 but that was just a couple months after NCEPT dropped. I'm sure they've cracked way down on it now

How many different places did you apply? Was/were the facilities under 100% staffed? Did the ATM want to hire you? Was your resume good? If you get denied by one ATM or district, apply to another. It is possible to go from a 5/6 to a 12. I know at least two that have done it over the past few years

When I resigned in 2018, I had a tol through err to transfer from a 7 to 11. I resigned for family reasons, and thought I was being a good person by not transferring then resigning. Both facilities in the same district.

I applied for reinstatement to the 11. The ATM wanted me and tried to fight it. Whoever sits high enough on that board denied me. I even tried saying I had a tol before I left, I waited my turn and I wasn’t trying to beat the system. They said that they will only approve reinstatements back the highest facility level you were certified at or lower, no exceptions.

Didn’t want to go back to my old facility so I was approved to a 4 that was basically 99.9% staffed. The 11 right now is under 80% I think. Sorry to start a firestorm for people, that’s what happened.

How did you go about introducing yourself and your intentions to the ATM? Did you just call him/her and ask? Or what was that initial process like?

Perfect example of why you should never try to be a good person at the expense of doing what's best for you in this agency. You're nothing more than a cog in the wheel.

Has anyone been able to get a reason behind the ATOs 12 month policy, when the FAAs website says 6 months? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the ATO the only branch of the agency that hires controllers? I just cant wrap my head around why the ATO feels the need to go and extend the timeframe from what the FAA has already laid out.

I was asked by 2 ATMs to provide proof that it is 6 months. I sent them a link and copy and pasted it directly from the FAA site. They got back to me and said that's great but ATO will not allow it until 12 months. Not written anywhere.

It is written in ATO's internal SOP.

Because they want to discourage people from using this method to get around NCEPT.

I get all the things stated above, but the FAA and the ATO are one in the same, why would the FAA have a policy that applies only to ATO personnel, that the ATO doesnt agree with? Why create the confusion, why not just change it to 12 months on the FAA site to match the ATO? Again, the ATO IS THE ONLY BRANCH HIRING ATCS!!!

Because maybe the 6 month rule is still fine for staff specialists and other office workers in the ATO and the year rule is only for ATC.

Just saying, sending ATM's copies of regs/policy and asking them to explain probably isn't the best way to get them to want to hire you. Everyone else has made it pretty clear you need them to fight for you. Not the best look.

Right because I'm emailing ATMs with copies of regs right off the bat to get in. I had interested ATMs who were batting for me and didn't know the 6 month rule was written on the FAA site. They were shut down by the ATO because of their "internal" policy. Thanks for your concern though.

Seen conflicting information so i figured I’d ask here, is there a requirement of being a CPC for 52 weeks to use reinstatement as a way to get back to the FAA?

No. Just CPC status. You could quit a week after reaching CPC and still use the reinstatement route.
