Hell even when there was a push for privatization, that Rinaldi was in board with, NATCA was selling us (the members) down the river so that Rinaldi would have a seat on the board of directors of the organization that would take over ATC. ALPA (one of the airline unions) were some of the only people to object to what was being offered and they did so pretty much solely on behalf of the controllers.
So to sum it up no it's not not a novel idea but no I have zero faith that NATCA even tried for it. Also I'm pretty sure there's other government employees that get higher OT rates so that just goes to show how fucking useless our union is.

Anyone hired to ZSU through this will be going to area 2, which is approach. It’s actually not a bad way to do it. Right now, everyone who comes here went through the enroute academy. A place like P80 with 97% projected and ERRs inbound along with how the tower class gets to pick now really is gonna have a whole generation stuck at every low level up/down. I've been told and heard since day 1 that NATCA doesn't care about the mid-low level facilities. I have tried to ignore it and give NATCA benefit of doubt but it is getting harder and harder to do that anymore.Places like this ICT/A11/ABQ etc. I understand. Having a robust training program at almsot every facility will help movement not hurt it.
