Slate Book/NATCA/MOU Questions + Interpretations

Some regions are trying to make the argument that by accepting a 15/30 minute flex on the front end of your shift you’re automatically accepting an AWS and therefore by assigning you a non-8 hour shift, they’re not forcing you onto an AWS “because you’re already on one”

They’re using 34 Section 5 b1b. Even though Section 4 mentions needing you to volunteer in writing.
There’s multiple ways to handle this situation. Hope you have a good rep that’s qualified for the job. JD should be giving advice on this, he wanted to run the union. He should still be active on here giving input then. Yet, he’s been gone and nothing but silence from him now

The big question is are they right and section 4 doesn't apply.

It depends. Being on one 2024 BWS doesn't make you volunteer for 2025 BWS. It's pretty easy to write in the bidding procedures what lines are AWS lines, and bidding those lines means you are volunteering. If this creates a hardship for someone, a no flex, no credit time earning, straight 8hr shift work week consisting of only mids can be made to accommodate that hardship.

You are a fucking shill. I could have burned the fucker to the ground and chose to go the high road. Continue to test me and see what happens in 3 years right before I retire. I’m not leaving and believe me, if you know anything, you know the agency took notice of our election. You have no clue what I am capable of.

Why don’t you tell me who you are chickenshit?

That’s right, You wouldn’t call me. You’re a pussy.

How’s that for a response? Line is still open, anytime-

lol calling me a pussy? High road? Give advice to people that are asking for it, that’s all I said.

I took the high road in the election, but not here.

I didn’t see anyone requesting my advice, did you?

So, fuck that. You want to keep coming after me. Everyone here knows your game.

I’m not running anymore, but you’ve given me some motivation to run in three years, so thanks.

Again, it’s pretty easy to be an anonymous bitch so come on, you even hide your profile.

All that knowledge you have … Anonymously. Perhaps you could be a supervisor for all we know…. That’d actually be a good troll!

Let’s have it out. It ended well for Kramp when he tried to stay anonymous, so let’s see what you got.

Unless you’re afraid?

Yeah, people seem to jump from "you can't make me" to 9-5 Mon-Fri. Nah big dog it don't work like that. I don't think I'd be so maniacal as to give actually straight mids, but the threat would certainly be there if there was just one guy trying to play the odd man out.

Nah it’s totally bs to try to force your entire area into the fake new rattler that sucks.

I think the fatigue flex is stupid too, but the consensus matters. If most of the bargaining unit wants it, or thinks it's the least bad option, then you have to make it work as a rep. Or at least that's what a good rep should do.

No it doesn’t. You cannot be forced into this bs period. Our rep luckily is making lots of different options so hopefully we can find something good for anyone. This is only allowed for 1 year anyways so I don’t see the reason to prolong it. We gotta try to get something good now. It’s a lot easier to keep once you’re already doing it.

just throw in a little hawk tuah and we may have more negotiating power

If my rep wants to force straight mids because I won’t agree to a bullshit schedule, fuck them and I’m out of the union. The union shouldn’t be “punishing” members because they aren’t conforming.

You haven't been getting "forced" but you should have been given something to initial every year, most likely along with your RDO bid. "I agree to an alternate work schedule consisting of seven core hours and one flexible hour per day." Something along those lines. If you haven't been agreeing in writing every year then you shouldn't have been allowed to flex in or earn credit.

Management used to circulate it with the yes/no OT list at our place. Funnily enough, I think they've been forgetting to ask lately.

I’ve never seen anything like that or signed anything. I mean we probably would have but I think a lot of
People are confused about what flex is now that it matters more.

Ok. So rep makes a schedule utilizing the stupid 6hr hour thing. You are pissed and decide you won't sign off on it. What are your expectations for what happens next?

I’d expect them to get a line that isn’t the stupid 6 hour thing it’s possible it’s reverse rattler but it almost might just be straight lines. You can’t force people onto the stupid 6 hour thing period.
