Enroute Class pass rate

If one or both top scoring AGs are from (or wanted) FL that feking blows LOLOL ouch.

On the other hand, ZOA getting two people who want to be there is a actually a pretty good thing.

8 academy graduates per week will solve the staffing shortage in no time
Even if they go 18/18 it doesn’t mean it would help with staffing. Academy needs to implement the new training order to ensure more quality trainees because it’s just wasting money and bodies to train people that should have never even walked into the door. I’d rather see OTS direct hire at this point

In your opinion, how exactly should screening applicants be changed in order to hire on more qualified candidates?

CTI grad there? What's this new academy training order?

The "qualified candidate" debate is always contentious. Unfortunately there is no mold that makes an ATC candidate "qualified". Just because you have previous aviation experience doesn't mean you're going to be good at this job. Some of our best trainees came with ZERO aviation experience. One of the top graduates in my academy class had been on an airplane TWICE in their life. Some of the worst trainees I've seen have a shit attitude because of their prior experience. That being said, yes, having aviation experience SHOULD give you a leg up, but it doesn't directly correlate to success.

I get it. I graduated CTI two months before they changed the rules.

It’s not the applicant screening. It’s the training at the academy that doesn’t sufficiently meet the standards of what is required to produce a good enough trainee coming into the center. Not every center training is the same and the first few months of training are getting new trainees to break bad habits that they were taught at the academy to do otherwise be penalized. I think if centers were allocated the money that is given to trainees going to the academy you would see higher success rates and help our overall staffing problem. 90% of the training department just sits around all day. Their time and resources should be used teaching ATC basics and how they apply to that center specifically.
