No, it was just a rumor. There is still Non-Radar and the points are the same as previously
Heard it's on its way out though. Changes to be rolled out at the academy for both enroute and terminal new hire training later this year.
I hope so, change is hard for the FAA, old boomer here, when I went through in the 80's ( I can hear the replies now) everyone went through the enroute Non Radar portion thats all the training that the FAA felt everyone needed. that was for Enroute and Terminal both specialties same class, then told where you where going, in my case in 1983 15 out of probably 100 or more graduated, placement was go to ZLA or your fired. 3 years later only 3 made it to CPC. Most of the Training failures were sent to a small terminals. I was one of the lucky ones, but for years the FAA has been wasting time and energy on initial training that is totally useless, and now the FAA is reaping the rewards of such a antiquated training system. As you go through your career keep asking questions as why and when are we going to change.

If someone is truly exceptional, it seems so dumb that their choices depend on how many idiots are in the class. Like compare options of the if 2/10 pass vs 6/10 pass.

Slots dont drop off lists when people fail anymore. If only 1 passes, they can still choose from all centers on that list.

I will be the old man in the facility someday telling the younger controllers how fucked up the list system from the academy used to be. Glad it went away. Fortunately the facility that dropped off my list wasn’t a place I was interested in.
