I truely, genuinely hope you can understand/accept the criticism I am about to give on that.
It is abundantly clear, both to a critical observer and also from my personal interactions, that the current NATCA NEB gives ZERO shits about the UAW. Please think about the timeline of events for a moment: UAW officially goes on strike at 11:59pm Thursday night, Joe Biden states general support for the UAW on Friday afternoon, NATCA (after seeing the Biden administration is okay with it) issues a small paragraph statement of support for the UAW on Saturday afternoon.
Everyone saw this strike coming; yet NATCA stood by for 2 days without saying anything and only offered a boilerplate "we stand with you" after POTUS said he supported the UAW. It is a political maneuver that is both obvious and toothless. NATCA NEB has a ridiculous hard-on for political inside baseball, which they have zero acumen for. They want to believe they can be sharks in suits with a seat at the table, but they have given zero reason to substantiate that thinking: most unions tried that method after the Hoffa era up through the great recession and got their teeth kicked in at every turn for 40+ years.
When I was a dues-paying member I contacted NATCA national multiple times each regarding the strikes at John Deere, Kellogg, Warrior Met Coal, Frito-Lay, and the (potential) rail strike. After roughly a dozen contacts (I believe up to Warrior Met, but before Frito-Lay), my then FacRep paid me a visit at the request of someone from regional who was in turn delegated from national. My FacRep made it clear to me they were passing along information "from on high" and I was "explained at" that it was in NATCA's interest to not say or do anything supporting those labor disputes as it could hurt their bargaining chances down the road. It eventually came to pass that when the John Deere & Kellogg strikes ended NATCA gave a blurb endorsement of the workers after the fact; and during some random conference somewhere in the southern region they invited one of the Warrior Met workers to speak at some point so they could add it to the bottom of one of their email blurbs.
So, in short, NATCA NEB supports UAW in approximately the same way my boxers support my balls.
I don't know you, and I am pretty sure you don't know me. But 100% this. If there's genuine change at the top of the NATCA structure and an olive branch was offered, I 100% would be back in.
