Enroute Class pass rate

I've been looking through this thread about the enroute lists for about the past 3 months and haven't seen a single ZJX slot pop up. From what I've heard, it seems like the controllers there are severely overworked. Is the FAA choosing not to put them as initial spots to go to? Maybe only available by request? Just wondering what you all think.

Another question, how does one get to HCF? I assume it's only available internally and not through initial choice since it's a combined facility? Not sure, but also wondering about that!

The lists are “suppose” to be based on staffing needs. Everywhere is understaffed and everyone is overworked. Just the government doing government things.
I believe you either have to be from there originally or claim a hardship if your spouse is already working there when you’re hired

Go back about a year and it seemed like every class was sending literally 6 to ZJX. They're full up with a massive backlog of trainees. Typical government bandaid. Send a bunch of trainees to a facility that doesn't have the staffing to work traffic let alone train.

HCF seems to go back and forth between not at all available and available on request. It's dumb, especially for the person who is from the island and ends up in Miami.

Has anyone ever heard of someone request ZDC and getting approved. It's my understanding that is usually just for designated 'hard-to-staff' facilities listed for alts. If I get Enroute designation, I'd love to be there but haven't seen anyone request it like ever.

Not how it works. Your spouse would have to already be working there in order for you to request it

I'm not sure where this information is coming from but there's not a massive backlog of trainees. Theres a d school about to finish, and an r school starting up right after. There will be some fully certified d sides sitting on the floor later on in the year with CPDLC (attempt number 3 to get the facility done) training but by no means I'd call that a massive backlog.

any tips? I got my in-person class date in October.
Sorry just saw this. Make sure you study in groups as a class. Ask every question you can think of every single day you go in. There are no stupid questions at all. Ask the question as many times as you need to both your instructors and your classmates. Someone may explain it in a way that makes no sense. The next person may explain it in a way that makes total sense. If you are a visual learner, tell the instructor you need to see the situation played out on the whiteboard with the many airplanes. I did that a ton of times to help me grasp concepts. Study as often as you can and give it everything you have. I can't say this enough. Get close with your classmates. Do things together outside of studying. Go out to dinners. My class as a whole did tons of fun stuff in okc on the weekends after studying all week. Go to the arcade, mini-golfing, etc. It's tough moving far away from home and going through the academy. Your classmates will be your saving grace. If everyone works together, everyone's odds of passing increase tenfold.
