Facility Downgrades / Upgrades

MGM got downgraded because our main runway was shortened to 6000 feet for about 9 months last year to replace the BAK 12s and we couldn't do any precision approaches so the military went somewhere else. Even now that the runway is back to normal the military traffic still hasn't fully returned. Then this year in March our F16s left while they wait to get their F35s in December. So no guard traffic either.

We hope to get back up to level 7 once the F35s return. We're barely below the threshold

Do you know if your facility did an adequate job explaining that to the national validation team?
There's a whole section about minimizing unwarranted facility pay level fluctuations.
Beneath that, a section about lowering facility pay levels and steps that your facility can take to delay it from happening.

These sections seem like they would have applied to your situation.

I was told the union and the ATM provided a ton of documentation on the runway closure and ANG leaving that showed that both coincided with the traffic going down below level 7 minimums. Once the runway fully reopened traffic began coming back up until the ANG left where it started going back down again, but they still downgraded us

Well, if you upgrade again soon, everyone gets a 6 percent raise right?

Not until traffic numbers are reflected. The FAA will not upgrade on purposed traffic they upgrade/downgrade based on current traffic levels.
Ah yes but they held off on upgrading AZO because of proposed covid numbers despite being above the break point for 5 months. Even though any halfwit could tell they would stay well above those numbers after things picked back up.

No one gets an upgrade after just 5 months. Plus you get back pay anyways.

NATCA talks about facilities upgrading and downgrading highly and like to act like increasing our pay is guaranteed because of our contract AKA as if it were contractual. It is contractual... but the agency is going to do everything it can, to not upgrade facilities. Congress give X to the FAA for funding so how can the FAA spend 2X on facility upgrades? (it cant) Why do you think these new models are being made to readjust facility levels? Aviation is still a growing industry and they need to spend equal to or less money so a bunch of numbers are going to be pushed around and the end result is the FAA spending the same amount of money.

You might say to yourself... Well if the agency is spending the same amount of money how are we losing?

Well facilities that are level 12 now but are like 30% above the traffic they need to be level 12s that will just be the new threshold. 12s will stay 12s or whatever levels or system they change it to but the top of the band will stay there. The FAA "collaborate" with NATCA and make sure 2-3 new facilities that we level 11s or right below the top pay structure are added to the top pay structure so NATCA has something to bring back to its members. But in short the standard to get to the next level will be set so it is just barley out of reach for at least several years based of traffic growth trends before they make a new "better model".

All talks about the 25 facility down grades will be belittled and were simply overpaid before and the new math for calculating pay is just "more accurate" on complexity. Instead of being mad you got a pay cut you should be happy NATCA got you overpaid for so many years.

But keep chasing the carrot I promise you it is real and you can get to it!

NATCA should be ashamed over the catastrophe that are these constant downgrades. If they had any self respect someone would resign and apologize to the thousands of controllers who have received the soul crushing news that theyve been downgraded, while we have fools in the same union from N90 who have the balls to cry poor on these forums. Complete Travesty.

3 of these downgrades are 804's and given golden tickets to any facility in the NAS. Get a clue Top5dipshit

Ok Willy Wonka.

804s are just as catastrophic. They rip the heart out of facilities and leave them a shell of themselves to bleed out until they get contracted or wallow in level 4 hell for decades.

The 3 facilities you reference still have controllers working there. Controllers who are now less than they were yesterday in pay and prestige.
