Pushed to the brink? Another NYT article rehashes all the problems that haven't changed since before Reagan and PATCO

I completely agree all controllers need a raise and soon.
I think CIC pay and 10 hours turns are the quickest and easiest to attain with minimal pushback, they want oversight…..
Collaborate the shit out of that and I hope raises are coming soon.
The 10 hour thing is a tougher sell with the bargaining unit than it sounds. The easy way to do it is squeezing in an extra swing shift, but that requires more manning, which most places don't have. A reverse rattler does it with no extra manning, but good luck selling that.

Is there’s truth to that just one other reason to add to the list of reasons to retire upon eligibility. 9 hours isn’t enough to even get the recommended sleep in their fatigue training.

Reverse rattler as in first day is a mid? Fuck cutting into the weekend

This would never happen but a reduced work week, with 10 hour turns would easily be sold. Even a reverse rattler would easily be bought off on by the workforce

In an economy where some companies are opting for 32 hr weeks or even WFH it’s definitely logical but I feel the powers that be hate us and want us miserable so it will never happen sadly.

IMO this is something the union should be talking about, lobbying for, and demanding.

Always ask for more, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

We can’t staff facilities with people working 40 BWS. This isn’t feasible in the short term unless you want a ton of OT

Sounds good, it will be an improvement for future controllers , and more money in the meantime for me. It will make the profession better, which I’m in favor of. Definitely attract better applicants imo

Which make believe planet are you on where the BU would want a reverse rattler

10 hour turns would blow up every schedule. I don’t want to stay till 8am on the mid

In exchange for a 32 hr work week, yes, they’d sign off on it. What planet are you on where they wouldn’t accept one less day of work for the same pay? Lol
Of course we’d accept a 32 hour week. But it would have to result in an increased hourly rate (big deal) so there’s no pay cut and reverse rattler is way overkill, there’s no reason the agency would demand it and there’s no reason the union would want it.

Read the national constitution.

I'd like to see an OT restriction for no listers. People that don't want OT shouldn't be expected to work 6 day work weeks. I bid DAYS OFF for a reason. Then they get mad at us for banging in on too many of them.
100%. UPS drivers got no forced overtime in their new contract. Something we need, as the FAA is content using forced OT to make up for their woefully inadequate hiring numbers.

We need both no forced OT and to earn more for OT for the people that agree to work it, like 2x. No more of this “it’s cheaper to just make us work OT than hire more people” BS. Don’t let them get away with relying on overtime and make it a financial burden for them to do so. Meanwhile we can make more money if we choose to.
