What do they need to be exposed for? People know that mechanics and these jobs exist already? Not being exposed to cool high paying jobs that are more “blue collar”
Okay, that’s fine. I think people should be exposed to all kinds of careers. I just don’t think education reform is the tool for it.Not being exposed to cool high paying jobs that are more “blue collar”
You don’t know it’s cool until you learn about it. Like ppl thinking air traffic controllers are the guys with the wandsWhat do they need to be exposed for? People know that mechanics and these jobs exist already?
It is not the job of a high school to teach about something as niche as air traffic controlYou don’t know it’s cool until you learn about it. Like ppl thinking air traffic controllers are the guys with the wands
No but there could be an aviation program that you could enter that teaches you about maint, atc, piloting, airline ops, etc. Or even more broad like transportation. It is not the job of a high school to teach about something as niche as air traffic control
It’s not up to the kids to say I like trains I only want to learn about trains, there has to be a baseline, there needs to be an intermediate step between high school and college/trade school where something that you bring up would be more applicableNo but there could be an aviation program that you could enter that teaches you about maint, atc, piloting, airline ops, etc. Or even more broad like transportation.
Kids learn all about the benefits of college in high school and are pushed to go to college taking out thousands in debt. High schoolers should be pushed to the trades just as much as they are pushed towards college. It’s not up to the kids to say I like trains I only want to learn about trains, there has to be a baseline, there needs to be an intermediate step between high school and college/trade school where something that you bring up would be more applicable
That’s what we’re doing now. You think it’s good now? Serious question. I’m just sharing I would have loved to be taught more about the actual world and actual careers in high school. It’s not up to the kids to say I like trains I only want to learn about trains, there has to be a baseline, there needs to be an intermediate step between high school and college/trade school where something that you bring up would be more applicable
I agree a thousand percent, and my high school offered that for not only mechanics, but for trying to become a chef, but to CAD, and other things as wellKids learn all about the benefits of college in high school and are pushed to go to college taking out thousands in debt. Or the military, I'm super glad I was too poor to go to college at the time. At the age of 18 you should be old enough to make an informed decision if you want to enter lifelong debt for a near worthless degree. Sheltering kids and giving them just one option only hurts them more than it helps.Kids learn all about the benefits of college in high school and are pushed to go to college taking out thousands in debt. I don’t think that’s what we are doing now, high school is just to prepare for college, and most severely lack informing about real world things that would be useful, or options besides college. I’m not sure if you know how the UK does education but I like their way more than oursThat’s what we’re doing now. You think it’s good now? Serious question. That’s a lot more than my highschool did. We were all pushed to go to college so we didn’t have to be “insert trade job”.I agree a thousand percent, and my high school offered that for not only mechanics, but for trying to become a chef, but to CAD, and other things as well
Honestly the military is about the best option for someone who doesn’t have a direction in life yet. Sets you up financially and can give you a lot of opportunities you’d never have had.Or the military, I'm super glad I was too poor to go to college at the time. It’s why I’m extremely thankful I went to high school where I did, they even had a summer program you could go to during middle school to see if it’s something you wanted to do during high schoolThat’s a lot more than my highschool did. To be fair high school should also be more challenging, because not having to study in high school fucked me in collegeThat's impressive. It'd be nice if more highschools were that way. Wouldn't have as many people getting degrees they never use I'd imagine.
Making high school a more challenging version of the memorization game that it is won’t teach you how to learn the information. And plenty of people don’t have the support system to make it through high school as it is.To be fair high school should also be more challenging, because not having to study in high school fucked me in college
I meant more challenging material, but I guess it’s not really fair to assume that my high school should have taught dif eqAll of these comments depend on the idea that the only way for education to enrich your life is for it to determine your job. Education is a lot more than that.
