Hardships

I have a question regarding category 1 of the hardship article. “The medical condition of the employee, the employee's spouse, or dependent children residing in the employee's household requires a geographical move from the employee's present duty station assignment to a geographical area deemed necessary to improve or maintain the health or receive health services”.

Who deem’s it necessary? The FAA or the medical professionals?
Medical personnel.

And you better have a strong case for the geographical location as well. Found out last week mines finally been approved after NATCA and the agency had been fighting about location. The agency wanted to send me to a location in a different state, still a desert environment, and the Fac has 10 trainees instead of a facility I asked for, who can pick up 3 and no trainees. Hopefully I hear some more official news aside from “it’s been approved and waiting on paperwork to sign”

Isn’t everywhere outside of the Southwest not a desert? Are you saying they’ll send you anywhere without that climate?

No, I’m saying we’re in a desert and they wanted to send us to another desert. ? I put 3 facilities in one city that works for us as we lived there before and know from experience the hardship will be satisfied but the agency wanted to send up to another desert since their documentation basically said “you’re in a red city, this is a yellow city, prove to us why you need to be in this requested city” which by their own paperwork was green. ?‍♂️ NATCA had my back though and it was a long hard fought battle. Thanks to everyone who helped me.

Ah that makes sense

So me and my wife moved to TN recently and she’s having severe separation anxiety from her family back in NY has started to take medication but is having horrible side effects from the medication . I’m a trainee don’t know if I’m allowed to hardship as a trainee. Would this been be deemed an acceptable hardship ?

Yes. I know people that have hardshipped with this exact situation.

hah I’m in the same boat. No side effects from the meds yet but she’s on em. I’m a CPC and been in my spot for 3.5 years with no end in sight.

You mean to tell me they took away NCEPT, and now hardships have increased tenfold?! Time to talk to the doctor about a finely worded letter

Interesting. Good to know.
I would write the Drs letter and make sure it says what it needs to including "requires jogn and his wife to move to XYZ to relief symptoms" as per the article and tell the doctor you need something like that for your work or "he can just sign the one you wrote if he's okay with it". From what I've seen doctors don't give a shit and will just sign it.

Thats good info for sure. Im not planning on leaving my facility anytime soon but it's always good to be aware and I figure someone else might be in this situation.

Anyone have any experience with a hardship to a Florida Coastal Area, drs words not mine, to help with severe eczema and allergies? If so, was it approved and how did the allergies and eczema do after the move? Where did you move from?
