Enroute Class pass rate

Damn man I'm really sorry to hear that. I start basics next week is there anything you suggest I hit really hard studying going through class to hopefully be prepared for the eval surprises?
The differences I noticed in the eval problems were:

-A lot more overflights
-Unusual destinations
-Situations presented differently, e.g., emergencies into airports you’ve never done emergencies into
-Nerves suck

Know the concepts behind situations and why a particular solution solves it so you are able to apply it when the situation is wrinkled.

Ask questions as soon as they come up. Don’t let the instructors move on until you understand something 100%.

Hit everything hard. It wasn’t so much the “new concepts” that got me, it was the complexity and how busy they were I guess. And if you make one stupid mistake in those problems, it can cost you the entire problem. My R-side couldn’t even keep all the data blocks separated for me because of the amount of airplanes that were in my airspace was insane. If you study hard and know everything, that’s all you can do. I ran all the practice problems with ease for the most part, the evals were just a step up from what we were used to. I got multiple 100%’s on tests and lots of 90’s. Study hard and just try your best. That’s all you can do. Ask every question you can think of. Don’t be embarrassed. I was known for asking questions in my class lol. Read your LOAs and SOPs over and over. Nonradar is not fun, just survive it. If I think of any more advice, I’ll let ya know.

I’m a noob, so I’m out of the loop. But was ZAE a typo?

I’m a noob so I’m likely out of the loop, but is ZAE a typo?
No, apparently they’ll be at the academy for four years testing out the eval problems for the generations to come. Eventually go to a center of their choice and act as a supervisor until able to CPC on all sectors in their area.

Yep. My classmate ran the same problems as me and got the same scores. And she was also really good. It sucks. I’m unfortunately one of the ones who didn’t make it. I was told every single day by instructors that I was really good and I’d have no problem getting out of there. My first evaluator pulled me in to tell me my score and he said “you were the best student I’ve ever graded, you just ended up making one mistake in the second half that caused a bunch of other errors. I have no doubt that you can do this job and be very successful at it. I know you’ll kill the next two and get out of here. You deserve this job” and here I am. Totally sucks. Especially after having an evaluator himself tell me that. Wasn’t nervous at all. The problems were just so crazy and had new concepts in them. I also heard that they recently ramped them up more. And the evaluators I had are apparently known to grade the hardest problems is what I was told
May I ask what do you think separated the 4 that passed from the 4 that didn't? Does it come down to just that one mistake? Is it possible to isolate that mistake and not cause the other ones or is that cascade unavoidable?

I wasn’t in there for their evals so idk. But all 8 of us were really good, so it’s not like some studied more or were better than the others. Some mistakes cause others, and some mistakes don’t. I had mistakes that didn’t affect anything else and some that caused others and made them unavoidable.

Did you like miss some point outs? In the old problems there was a series of point outs you had to make but it was tight and you had to do them in a specific order to get them all done.

To the others asking:

The evals are really testing for your ability to figure out your priority of duties and get everything done in time. Each individual action is fairly straight forward

Nah, didn’t miss any point outs, and there were plenty. There were just tricky things that were scripted to happen. I don’t think I’m allowed to go into specifics, or else I would

Total asshole response, but not like they can do anything else to you at this point. Might as well try to help others pass that bullshit.

I graduated fairly recently and something they did that was never done during practice problems was to have Flight Data call for a departure that never printed. You needed to not panic and print the strip yourself since it says specifically in the SOP's that you can't give a clearance from the Departure List. First person this happened to totally bombed the eval and the only reason my class was prepared was we heard what happened.

If you were in the C lab, this happened all the time during regular problems. #justClabthings

The reason I’m not giving details is because I’m not done with the FAA. If I was done with the FAA, I would give the details.
