Enroute Class pass rate

The only thing interesting about it is that they weren't allowed to go there in the first place. My OKC classmate from Albuquerque ended up on the east coast, in true FAA fashion.

There was one class where someone from PNW settled for ZAU and then literally the next class someone from the Chicago area took ZSE because ZAU wasn't on his list. Can't make this s**t up. This was a less extreme example since those aren't undesirable glue traps like ZOA or ZNY but in a perfect world, if they could eventually swap, the total training time is so much higher than it needs to be.

ALT 2 ZAN x2 ZSU x2 ZNY

So they changed the list, and also changed how facilities are now selected. Its explained at the top of the image:

(Not Pictures: another page with more facilities)

New List: Every facility x2 (Except x1 ZLA) aside from ZSE and ZUA

Category B (Priority Facilities):
Enroute facilities below 80% Projected % to Target. 25% of graduates must choose from these in priority order.

Category C (Eligible Facilities):
Enroute facilities less than 5% above the Summarized Enroute Projected % to Target.

Are they doing anything like this for terminal?

This is great for new hires, and a step in the right direction. At the same time I have to imagine many CPCs who had little to no control over where they went are probably a little jealous. Hopefully this means less new CPCs competing for the limited ERR slots.
I agree. It sucks for people already in, but long term, this is a great move that should have an effect on morale. Increasing the odds that someone ends up somewhere they want to be right out of the gate will increase trainee motivation, cut down on hardship/NEST scams, decrease the number of ERR submissions, and reduce resignations.

People being forced to locations they’re miserable in out of the Academy has been one of the biggest issues. It’s funny (and sad) that the agency realized this and is taking steps to address it on their own with no advocacy from NATCA. Our union is basically worthless these days.

All true

Been an issue for 8 years.

You have exactly 0 idea what you’re talking about here. 0.0 on the nose.

Yeah it affected morale pretty negatively at my level 4 tower only that may never see another trainee. Already had a few threats of quitting and someone working on a hardship. Took it with the thought of short training times and good NCEPT chances and now it’s looking pretty bleak for my future.

Should be one of the biggest revolving doors in the agency. What’s the issue?

We have been but that’s because someone was forced to either choose us or California lol. No one is looking at a 7 page list of facilities and choosing a level 4 in central IL when they can choose Florida, Texas, Georgia or so on. The new placement rules really fuck us. I do believe this is good for the NAS and I think doing local events and convincing people to apply will help us since there is a guarantee now that you could get home or at least close to home. With the new way it works

We had this exact same argument months ago when the last change to placement was made (facilities no longer falling off lists due to failures). Are you on the NATCA email list? They take credit and pat themselves on the back for ANYTHING even remotely positive that they are involved in - on any level.

So you’re saying they were involved in not one, but two of the most significant positive changes to Academy placement in decades, but just decided not to mention it to membership? Anywhere? Even once? Right in the middle of a national election cycle?

This time around, do care to provide any evidence or even a rational counter-argument that NATCA did play a part in this decision, or just are you just going to stick with your childish “yOu HaVe No IdEa WhAt YoU’rE tAlKiNg AbOuT” statement? Prove me wrong and I’ll gladly admit I am.
