New time off between shifts mandate. Big change

Who works between 2200-000

Straight shifts will give you the exact same coverage. The question will be will you rotate or will you just work the same time all year. 6 hour before the mid wouldn’t be that good unless you could also work a 6 hour mid. Like 6-12 12-8 would be horrendous.
Why would a 0000-0800 be horrendous? Y'all sups make the mid work after the openers show up?

Straight shifts are such an easy solution that everyone glances over because they are dick hard for the rattler. The rattler is garbage and we should get rid of it. Just rotate every week or 2 or month who cares.
I kinda like the rattler I just don’t get how folks are like this makes our staffing so much work. Like it matters jf someone works 1-9 5 times versus 5 different people doing it

The big problem with using the 6 hour day to accommodate a rattler is you will be down those bodies for 2 hours once they leave. The popular day shifts before a mid seem to be 0530-1330 or 0600-1400. With either of them, if you just work 0530-1130 or 0600-1200, well from 1130-1330 or 1200-1400, you are down those bodies you used to have today. The larger facilities might be able to make that happen without shifting other things around and just "suffer through it" but the smaller facilities must change something around as they can't lose those bodies for 2 hours. It won't be just plug-and-play with this "new" rattler like some people think.

But straight shifts, you are bang on. It doesn't change any staffing numbers at all. Like you said, instead of 5 different people working a shift for a 5 day period, it'll be the same person instead. No different than if they did a shift swap today for an entire week to work that shift.

Would be nice if NATCA actually did something for us instead of just taking it up the ass. The schedules are already dog shit, didn't think they could get any worse. How about they say no we can't do this. If your union isn't protecting your already dog shit schedules and not getting you more pay, wtf are we even paying them for?

The same person that works mids on the other crews would come in early on their 1st and 2nd day back to work those extra 2 hours and it’s the coverage for that person leaving early. It is plug and play

Anyone can neg. Straights shifts whenever they like. Lots of facilities have them already

FAA : you need more time off between your shifts to get your rest

Natca : no we don’t

🤔

The FAA doesn't give a fuck about us. This idea probably came from some fat fuck bean counter rippin diet cokes 24/7 eating Taco Bell in DC. Good luck when you get scheduled over time. BRB at the facility every day. That will help the fatigue situation.

I’d like to actually be able to see my kids and take them to sports practices and games
Straight mids for you 100%. In all seriousness, if we had 15-20% more staffing, straight shifts would work AND you would be (highly likely) able to swap your eves for days and mids. Because there seems to be just as many "I love day shifts" as there are "I hate day shifts cause I video game all night long"

I can't wait for straight shifts. Gonna be like working retail again.

Straight EVE's? Get fucked.

Guess I'm in the minority. I liked the rattler for its dynamic start times. Need something planned for a morning or for an evening specifically? You can accommodate it.
You’re confusing reality with a message board. You’re in the overwhelmingly massive majority. That’s why everyone works the rattler.

Your dogshit schedules are what your coworkers want to work. Nobody’s local is negotiating schedules nobody wants to work.

It’s not one size fits all. This post may be true at facilities that don’t have convective weather complexity. But a lot of places don’t have anyone that want straight swings in the summer because the whole building burns down every day at noon.
