Newark Disaster

I'm genuinely glad you're happy. It's always refreshing to hear when a fellow Controller is happy(ier) at work. It makes working traffic all the much more exciting and enjoyable - as it should be.

What's significant in 18 months?

Oh work is miserable now lol but I love where I live and will never set foot on that shit sack of an island every again

No cus you still need 2 CPCs to form the training team and at least 1 recommend.

Nope, they’ve put people up without trainer recommendations. Actually against their trainers opinion. And that was at N90, they’re far more desperate now.

EWR area C sups all were former CPCs and still work traffic. Not your typical level 6 tower sup running the break board of a Level 12 TRACON.

The current 3 and 2 just selected are/were CPC’s. The other 5 trainee sups weren’t ever certified in EWR area before.

That’s against the current training reg but idk who would grieve that. NATCA isn’t going to demand their member is decertified

Exactly, there is no real recourse for breaking the point 4 in favor of a trainee. Maybe if a different trainee that washed tried to file disparate treatment or something on the EEO side.

I'm not sure this is a "disaster" as you and I perceive it. If you think about how quickly, hastily and behind the scenes this was pieced together and implemented, how could things gone differently (better)? The FAA knew there was going to be operational impacts because of various failures/breaks-in-the chain. But they are willing to bet their bottom dollar that (thanks to things like TCAS and flow programs) a mid-air isn't going to occur. AND so long as there are no deaths, from the FAA's point-of-view, everything went as expected.

The FAA has never really had to answer to anyone. In my almost 20 years, not a single member of management at a regional or national level has ever been held accountable for this broken scum of an agency.
Operationally it’s a disaster not only because of the safety concerns due to the loss of reliability in the radar and/or comms, but also because even when all equipment is working properly, the coordination between the EWR area and the LGA controllers is less direct or effective. This is also true between the EWR area and the Liberty area.

When you work in the same facility, even if on different areas, you get to meet everyone, and share time together not only on the scopes, but more importantly off the scopes, whether in the cafeteria, the break rooms, or hanging out together at a local bar after a tough shift. You create personal relationships with the other guys, you know everyone's names and voices. When you get a call on a landline to coordinate something and it's your buddy on the other side, you go the extra mile to be helpful and accommodate whatever request. We're all on the same ship kinda thing. This opportunity for creating personal friendship bonds is now broken, and as new controllers get hired and old ones retire, the new generation will have zero connection to each other at both ends. Trust me, its a lot easier to shut the door down on somebody you don't know on the other side! This move has made the operation less efficient even when everything is working properly.

Let me guess, that asshole is one of the new supes, right? Omg what a fucking nightmare it must be to have that moron with a superiority complex and always a chip on his shoulder in charge.

If you’re definition of operational failure is you can’t do some illegal shit anymore I don’t know what to tell you.
