KLAS Tower Issues

If, rumors are to be true, she was on a last chance and near fresh out of rehab. Obviously we can all Monday night QB the situation. Though, that wouldn't sit right with me. I'd have been up there any way. Even if not to look for alcohol, just to make sure she's good newly back. Yeah I'm not at an 11, however, two person mid, was a sup really there that late? Or was that crew ran choices and the sup bounced out at 1030 or 11 when the mid started? Again, don't know the full situation and not even saying the releaved controller or crew buddy should get in trouble, just looked at. Could we have done better?

I’m at a 12 and we do 2 person mids. Sups don’t work mids.

And I easily see someone not noticing anything weird. She doesn’t have to say anything or very much anyway during the relief brief and is she’s not breathing in your face good chance you won’t smell anything.

Yeah, that's fair, especially if it was vodka, nearly odorless anyway. Just damn man. What a black eye. With a lot more expletives I won't type. I knew it was bad with how NATCA responded. With a response like that, you knew the actions couldn't be defended. Just glad everyone made it out safe.

I think the rehab thing is bogus. She likely would have lost her currency and I highly doubt her first shift back would be a mid. Plus she would have needed an over the shoulder to be current again. I do however believe there is a history of alcohol issues. Expect to see a lot more applicants having a difficult time getting hired with alcohol related offenses on their records.

For the record I have worked at a level 11 and level 12 tracon, both have two person mids with no supervisor.

Also according to CNN the controller is no longer employed by the FAA

Ok. Here is my breakdown. She started drinking at a moderate pace in preparation for her recuperative break so she could sleep well. The crying around the 12 min mark was due to some airline base ops calling the tower to complain. She wasn't choking on anything at that point but crying bc she knew that she was busted. The string of standbys (I hope) was to keep guys from moving until help could arrive or she was mixing another vodka and tonic. Not sure just the way it played in my mind.

As the facility drug and alcohol rep at my facility I have to strongly advise against drinking alcohol, popping pills, snorting coke or any other form of “getting blazed” while at work. Bad form.

My rather out there theory, since obviously no one else smelled anything, and her downhill turn went so quickly, is a vodka soaked tampon or some other non-drinking form of alcohol consumption, such as the butt chug.

Prob tried to keep it out of the controller ranks, im betting upper management and guard shack at busy facilities and supes and above at non-guard shack facilities. Probably for her own protection, I know what I’d probably do if I saw her lol

She's banded from the facility, but suspended, not fired. There is a "be on the look out" poster with her name and face on it around LAS/L30. They even put that she is known for having lots of fire arms on the poster lol. They must not want her sneaking back to the facility till everything is sorted out.

The union and FAA needed to eat the bullet but instead they played **** games and gave plain Jane statements.

Now the major news outlets are reporting that the other controller that was assigned upstairs was on break and the FAA finds that unacceptable.

We all as controllers will be looked at by the public as clowns, the faa will punish us all as if we did something wrong and the beacon or radar (depending on your facility) will keep turning.

2 cpc mids are a common place in the terminal environment. The official statement should have been just that... "2 cpc mids have always worked, every now and then you get a bad apple. We are sorry, she's been terminated and we'll go back to providing the awesome service you've come to expect"

Honestly if the FAA wants to change things fine, do a three cpc mid instead of coming up with some stupid 90 mins after the start of a mid rule. What stops a controller from getting blasted on the second half? Dumb dumb dumb.

Edit: some cry baby mod edited this post because it had naughty words.. The same words that get dropped on the control floor.

Yeah but then they'd have to use OT and it's easier to mandate a worthless policy then blame us when it goes bad than it is to pay us.

If she spent her quick turn drinking and came in already at .10 assuming 160lbs she would only need 6 shots to get to .32. That's totally doable in an hour. She could have miss judged how drunk she was initially and poured a big drink as soon as she was alone.

Everyone I have seen come in for the mid including myself is kinda out of it when they arrive. They are definitely slower then their normal speed and if her mid partner was the only other one there and also tired he might have overlooked her acting strange. Plus she might have rushed him out of the cab to be alone and he was happy to get some sleep.
