Enroute Class pass rate

How likely is it that you will get a perfect score on the final though? Is it even remotely possible? (I assume 70 is passing)
For a person going into it with a 4? I’d say next to impossible. If someone got a 4 through all of the academics and non-radar problems, they either don’t get it or they aren’t applying themselves. Even the worst people in our class stuck it out until they were told to leave.

I assume that too haha. What would you say the average score is for the final? I've read some entries where people completely lose their nerve and others perform flawlessly so I have no real frame of reference what one can expect.

I have no idea what an average score is, honestly. In basics they told us that the absolute minimum you should take into ERAM evals is a 26. A guy in our class had 32+/34 going into ERAM and finished 2nd or 3rd from the bottom. There is no frame of reference to go off of. Class rankings don’t mean shit until you get to ERAM. Just because someone can take multiple choice tests better than you doesn’t mean they’re going to play the Academy ATC Game better than you. Don’t be cocky and think your success will be automatic, but be confident in what you know and don’t second guess yourself. Self doubt is the biggest factor I noticed in those that failed.

I would say the scores average out to somewhere around 70. Totally doable to get a 100 on the easy problem no doubt.

I found it funny that the more nervous I was for the eval the better I performed. I mathematically passed on my first two and my 3rd scenario was my worst one. 98/89/71

The evals are not overly complex or difficult, you just need to know what to do, do it, and not have to think about it. If you are able to do everything correctly the first time the scenarios are not hard. If you fumble with a flight plan entry or something similar the scenarios WILL snowball and you will miss stuff. The scenarios are mostly busy work, and there is a lot of it.

Only two people ever have got three 100s on their scenarios. Get the easy points early on and you'll make your life a lot easier. I went in with over 33 points and needed to average a 59 on all three. I saw one guy go in with 15 points and he needed to average an 80 among all three. Needless to say, that person didn't make it.

Keep in mind as well, a huge amount of discretion is left in the hands of the Evaluators. Most are generally fair, but there are a few hard asses that if you get them, you’re likely going to be in trouble. I had 0 A1’s and missed 0 point outs in my first eval, but the dude slapped me with a 40. Literally wrote up EVERY little mistake, and a bunch of “controller judgement” errors which can basically be anything. Luckily I did well on my next two and passed, but beware, a lot of it can come down to who you get as an Evaluator and when.

Disagree hardcore with the 26 number. They try and scare people with a speech about how "I've never seen anyone with a 25 going into radar pass".. at least we got that speech at the very end of the course. Well wouldn't you know, right on cue.. Our 2 lowest people in the class who had a 25 PASSED pretty comfortably, while the highest dude who had a 33 FAILED after the first day.

Don't listen to anything anyone tells you about numbers. If you go in with the mindset that you need a 70% on each of the radar evals, you'll pass.. That's exactly what the mentality I had was. I would get row instructors on my last day ask me what I needed to pass and all I said was "I have no idea, all I really care about is getting above a 70%"

I got a 80/84/72 on mine, the last being my most nerve racking and where I missed a point out.

As of 4 months ago, it was a fantastic group of evaluators. Not out to screw you at all.

I've heard one evaluator in particular was brutal at least to my class. He handed out one 0, and another 10.. heard in the class above us he handed out a 15 or something low like that.. Not sure if those were legit warranted or not, but alot of people wanted to stay clear of him.

This is honestly the most nerve racking shit I keep reading on here. It seems commonplace to hear how subjective these results can be based of the evaluator. But I agree with Njeezy. I think going into it trying to put too much pressure on yourself will only hurt you. We will see when I get there.

Also, for those that have done evals already, does the same evaluator run all your problems or is it random?

It’s true nerves are definitely one of the biggest killers when it comes to Evals. You’ll run with a different Evaluator for each of your three runs, so even if you get one of the bad ones, chances are you’ll have better ones for the other two. It’s just unfortunate for those that do get one of the bad ones though because they literally hold 22% of your grade in their hands. There’s one guy in particular a lot of people have had a bad experience with over the past could of months. Rhymes with Truck.

Lol! Yeah it’s rough those, supposedly a student a few classes before mine had this particular evaluator actually fall asleep during their run. But in the end, all we can control is ourselves, can’t control the problems we get or who’s grading them. Just gotta give it everything you’ve got every time, fight till the end, and the outcome will be what it’ll be.
