Hardships

My Facrep spoke with the regional guy for natca in my region about my paperwork and he says that it probably not going to pass because my wife’s primary care physician is a physician’s assistant and not a dr. He also brought up that the note the “Dr” wrote for her only says “would benefit” not “deemed necessary” there’s also a note in her medical records from when she asked for the note from the dr. Has anyone had any of these issues when trying to submit the paperwork with the region? My wife was already pretty unhappy with having to give them the medical records to begin with and she’s not really interested having to go back to her dr to try and get a different note just because the agency doesn’t like the wording of the one we already have. I’m not sure where to go from here since my hardship seems like it’s not going to pass on technicalities despite 4+ years of medical history demonstrating the issue.

I don't think there is a requirement in A99 that states it has to be written by an MD vs a PA or NP. They are also qualified to make certain diagnosis, so I'd call BS on that one.

I'm not sure on your second part because it seems more like a wording issue. A99 does state " I. The medical condition of the employee, the employee's spouse, or
dependent children residing in the employee's household requires a a geographical move from the employee's present duty station
assignment to a geographical area deemed necessary to improve or
maintain the health or receive health services.

If you are able to I'd see if you can change the wording to exactly what the CBA says, because I think you could fight the Physician Assistant issue.

My region did the same thing. Wouldn’t even look at it because it had a signature from a PA, so I had to get an MD to sign off on it. Good luck, the process isn’t easy, even if it’s a legitimate reason.

Yeah, I had a hardship denied for the exact same reason about 4 years ago. Doctor wouldn’t change the wording from “would benefit” to “is necessary” and so it failed.
How’d that process work out? They gave you the chance to get the doctor to change the wording to “is necessary” but the doctor wouldn’t do it so they then denied it?

I hope mine works out, I just recently submitted. My wife’s doctor explained how I need to be a caregiver for my wife due to the potentially fatal nature of her disease. He didn’t say “is necessary” but did say “everyone’s best interest” for my geographical move. There of course is more to it than that, like explaining how the move would improve/maintain her health etc. I feel like if they gave me the chance to get the doc to change it to what they want him to say that he would do it. Hopefully I won’t need to do that and it’ll just get approved.

Ok guys so I just found out that I’m probably gonna be a dad, and I’m nervous as hell bc I’m not together with the to be mother. Im allegedly getting a start date around December and everything seems to be moving so fast. She’s 2 months, and with my timeline it’s looking like I’ll hopefully start at a facility right before the birth (assuming all goes well and I pass). That being said, I have some questions.

1) let’s say my date gets pushed back for covid, and I end up in the academy as baby mama goes into labor, is there anything that I can do to fly out there to be there with her?

2) I know there is parental leave that I can get an advance on, but I assume I would have to be in a facility to use that leave. That being said, what are the odds that I can file hardship under #3 on the priority list and move closer to my baby ASAP?

If you take the job and move willingly knowing your kid and baby mama won’t be near you they can deny your hardship. It happened to a guy I work with.

I was trying to go back home to be close to/help take care of my sick mom, but my dad and two siblings were home/nearby and the doctor wasn't convinced my presence was "necessary," so they wouldn't change the wording.

Yeah, they definitely gave me a chance to re-submit it, but I couldn't give them what they want. I think that wording is everything when using that specific hardship request.

Fuckin hell mate. When there’s a will there’s a way I guess

I’m not exactly familiar with the process but if you could make it seem like you thought they’d be going with you or that you didnt know about the kid until after you move then that might work lol.

I would make sure it included the statement "necessary to improve or maintain the health or receive health services." There is so much wiggle room in that statement that I cant see why a MD wouldn't write it.

Write the doctors note first, then bring it to a doctor and explain how the FAA hardship process works, then have him sign your note. EZ PZ.
