I'm just trying to figure out why Grant Tower is even a facility...

At one time they were home to JAL training, Boeing still utilizes them as well as the tankers out of Fairchild in Spokane. A lot of that is gone and dropped, but it certainly has served a purpose.

McChord AFB also uses it as their C-17 assault strip.

Facility mentality is the issue. 2 years to finish someone training on Local? Please.

This is so maddening. I should not care where other people want to go. I should not care about potential hardships, etc. All I want to do is get home and this process literally makes it impossible.

Anyone have any suggestions? Like good lord.

Put your big girl panties on and suck it up. You knew the FAA could, and would send you where they needed you. There are different avenues to get out of your current facility, although they may not take you home. Trying to get to a place that can accept 1 or 2 people, in the middle of the Priority list could take years.

I applied to both N90/C90 on their previous bids. On the announcement both just stated minimum qualifications were CPC in an ATO facility. Once you began going through the application process though is where both asked if you had level 8+ radar experience. I don't. I was still referred to both facilities but received a red "not hired" for each. I haven't applied to the current N90/C90 bids yet so maybe something has changed. It's always worth a shot though; worst they can say is "not hired."

Normally I keep to myself about asinine comments on forums, however, cmon man.

You have to understand that there are thousands of controllers that are being kept at their current facilities for no really good reason. There are super understaffed facilities in the agency that are screaming for more people. These facilities are the ones that are actually crucial to the NAS.

There are those of us that are at facilities that can allow 5 CPCs on leave a day, have 1 hour on 1 hour off schedules the whole day, etc. And NO OT is called in. Yet we are considered understaffed. (Our target # is in the low 20s). So therefore we can't release people in a fair and timely manner.

Since we are a low level facility, like mentioned above, C90/N90 won't even consider us. We have had a few try multiple times and got denied.

Being sent to a low level facility to start is great and all. My facility is a good place to start. That being said, none of us really had much of a choice where we went to start. And for most people, low level facilities are just to get your feet wet and gain experience and then move on up. This process makes it next to impossible to do that.

And sure, we can go back a forth and say things like " there are so many people dying to get this job that would go anywhere just to be a controller" and blah blah blah. But that argument is missing the whole point. We all understand that we have an awesome job and are all grateful of it.

That being said, we are unnecessarily being kept at a place where we can't use our abilities to the way we should be able to. This is not only to advance our careers but to help to health of the NAS at the nation's busiest airports.

Oh and after N90/C90, the only "avenues" are a hardship and quitting. So if you don't qualify for a hardship, you either quit or you're stuck.

Bid something higher on the Priority list. There's a few douchebags at my facility that want me to withdrawal my ERRs to higher facilities because they think they deserve to go first. They can Foxtrot Oscar.

You're not being punished. Everyone has an equal opportunity to get picked up somewhere. If someone is willing to move wherever, good for them. If you're only willing to move to one location, expect to wait a while. The gov't could give two shots about you or your family's needs.

Equal opportunity lol. Because I and many others have been able to get picked up over the last two years, regardless of how high in priority we bid to.

I wouldn't care if it were a level 14 lol. That being said, we are more than likely going to be an 8. At least that's what we were all told.
Well hey now a level 14 I'd probably go to work level 6-7 traffic. Also, at that dinner at the brewery they said most likely a level 7.
