Put your big girl panties on and suck it up. You knew the FAA could, and would send you where they needed you. There are different avenues to get out of your current facility, although they may not take you home. Trying to get to a place that can accept 1 or 2 people, in the middle of the Priority list could take years.
Normally I keep to myself about asinine comments on forums, however, cmon man.
You have to understand that there are thousands of controllers that are being kept at their current facilities for no really good reason. There are super understaffed facilities in the agency that are screaming for more people. These facilities are the ones that are actually crucial to the NAS.
There are those of us that are at facilities that can allow 5 CPCs on leave a day, have 1 hour on 1 hour off schedules the whole day, etc. And NO OT is called in. Yet we are considered understaffed. (Our target # is in the low 20s). So therefore we can't release people in a fair and timely manner.
Since we are a low level facility, like mentioned above, C90/N90 won't even consider us. We have had a few try multiple times and got denied.
Being sent to a low level facility to start is great and all. My facility is a good place to start. That being said, none of us really had much of a choice where we went to start. And for most people, low level facilities are just to get your feet wet and gain experience and then move on up. This process makes it next to impossible to do that.
And sure, we can go back a forth and say things like " there are so many people dying to get this job that would go anywhere just to be a controller" and blah blah blah. But that argument is missing the whole point. We all understand that we have an awesome job and are all grateful of it.
That being said, we are unnecessarily being kept at a place where we can't use our abilities to the way we should be able to. This is not only to advance our careers but to help to health of the NAS at the nation's busiest airports.
Oh and after N90/C90, the only "avenues" are a hardship and quitting. So if you don't qualify for a hardship, you either quit or you're stuck.
