New time off between shifts mandate. Big change

If you don't mind sharing...
How many lines do you need for this to work?
Are you 24/7?
24/7. Day shifts are mostly 7-3 with either one or two 6-2 and occasionally an 8-4. Night shifts are mostly 3-11 and two or three 4-12. We have a ton of random lines that people can change into if staffing allows (9-5, 11-7pm, 12-8pm, etc.) Mid shift is 11-7am. I’m not sure if this type of schedule would work at smaller facilities but any facility/area with 25-50 people it should work just fine. Maybe we’re just lucky but we’ve always had people that want permanent mid shifts so it’s week of nights/week of days all year long except when the mid people are on vacation.

Do you happen to have a template for this you can share?

After looking at potential schedules, we have decided this new rules introduce less rest than before for those who have kids. Our mids will have to start later, and people will have to be in at the same time or earlier. Kids are still going to need to get up at the same time and go to school. They will go to bed at the same time. IMO, this MOU is worse for family life than the rattler. The only better family style schedule is if you are on straight days. But only so many people can be on that line. Everyone else is screwed.

It is also nearly impossible to move back from a single mid to a day shift if you need to. All of the previous day's day shifters are now ineligible to work a mid because of the 12 hour rule.

An actual reasonable solution would have been to swap the two rules.
1. 12 hours between all shifts except...
2. 10 hours between a day shift and mid.

This actually would help eliminate quick turns which was the main argument against the rattler.

With 7 sets of rdos, you just rotate through a full week of mids every 5 weeks. All other shifts remain the same. The mid is still 10-6. The latest shift you have is still 2-10. Also no reason to do the other shifts just straight shifts. I’ve written it out and you end up working 2/3 swings and 2/3 days per week. The thing that sucks is it’s not consistent on a weekly basis. Some weeks you get two closers and the following week you finish it with two openers. But it’s one of the better options. A week of mids disrupts life a bit less than working a max flex 6 and mids starting at 12am in my opinion. I have kids and more to come so I’m not a single dude who doesn’t understand.

I feel like leave would fuck that all up. Just bid a day of leave almost every week, get out of all the mids, and stick your coworkers with them.

Edit: how many people do you have on each set of RDOs?

Why would you rotate at all during your other weeks tho? Just work consistant times might as well

Wonder if the collaborators even looked at that.

If someone has leave on a mid, it will be covered with OT. We have 3-4 people on each crew and we work 3 man mids.

If you draw the schedule out, you’ll see that’s not possible. And if you want to reply to this comment, first write out a schedule, then speak.

It is possible. We need to stop trying to make weird rotating rattler light schedules that comply. It makes no difference if the same guy works 7-3 5 times or if you have 5 guys do it

Unless you have another person on a mid line available for the OT, it would have to split the RDOs or a normal rattler worker and be on their second day off. That’s rough.
