Leaving NATCA outside January

What’s the catch?
From what I've learned, the positions are for limited amounts of time. It may vary but the ones I looked at (overseas) were 5 years, then you had to go back to where they sent you in the States or resign. After 2 years in the States one was eligible to apply for an overseas bid again, but no guarantee of selection. I have heard of extensions of a couple years past 5 but there are no guarantees. It would suck to move across the world, really like where you were, then be told to go back. This would be a better deal if you were 5 years away from when you want to retire or have enough money in TSP to retire. I guess the other catch is you aren't able to be in the union or get up to 24 hours of XTE.

I also think there is no 1.7% of High-3 up to 20 yrs and 1% thereafter at age 56. It may just be 1% per year at age 62 or whatever it is.

This is what I found out for some I specifically looked into. I'm no DoD expert and don't know all the ins and outs.

Right, we have several people on age waivers so this part I’m not sure how it works, that said:
-Unions do exist in DOD, including NATCA, and you can organise accordingly with some caveats (ie… each DOD facility that is NATCA has their own individual contract)
-What you stated about overseas assignments is true (to my knowledge) but that is why you apply to stateside facilities then do overseas (transferring back to where you started is an extreme possibility as long as you don’t burn bridges)
-Not having XTE is a bit of a bummer but with any jobs there exists give/take
-You don’t have to be prior military to get a DOD slot; I’m proof of that.
-You will never match the potential of the FAA pay scale, that said it’s best to CPC first and then your pay or top of the band will carry over. For example I know a guy that just got a TOL for a GS-13 DOD ATC (Non-supervisory) position
-Retirement stays the same.

A lot has annoyed me about NATCA but one of the worst things imo is that Trish and Paul got massive pay raises/salaries. Their pay raises should be tied to ours. Gives incentive to get us more pay.
This is a proposed constitutional amendment being voted on at convention in December.

We had someone that came here from Air Force, hated it, and got picked up in Iwakuni, and the way he talks about it with how much he makes tax free is really appealing

Lol I put in for that one and was selected as an alternate

Is there a list of DoD facilities that hire civilians? Don’t think I’ve seen one here or anywhere else.

They post on USA jobs. If you search 2152 jobs they'll come up if you have have rest of the filters set properly.

I've applied for a few overseas ones (that's a goal of the wife and I, live in europe for a few years at some point) like GulfCharlie said seems they like to hire within for the real choice oconus assignments, have applied for a few stateside gigs too, no hits yet.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a complied list per say, I’d have to look or make one. Like Gibbons said search 2152 jobs on USAJOB’s, I have a search setup that I get emails daily for openings.

I wish something like this would make it to a “vote” at convention but it won’t. Does anything make it to a legitimate “vote” at convention? All the amendments have pre-determined outcomes arranged at the pre-convention meetings. This one specifically will probably be defeated because they will say it is illegal to tie pay to performance, or that it would be impossible to quantify, or something like that.

?That’s because they have gotten to big and are running the Union like a corporation. So many scams and wasted money. How many positions ran unopposed this last election cycle? Nothing is going to change with the status quo, it will just be an extension of the Paul and Trish years stuff their pockets with cash and keep hitting repeat. Mafia type behavior by NATCA elitist, that keep us brainwashed with the same punchlines over and over and over.
