NEB meeting in Hawaii

um, why are there so many in person meetings in a year??? they should reduce it to like a once a year thing/conference and have follow-up meetings over zoom. or make the reps pay for their own expenses and see if they still wanna go šŸ¤£
This isnā€™t a rep meeting. Itā€™s the national executive boardā€¦12 peopleā€¦.you want them to only meet once in person a year?

After spending virtually nothing on travel in 2020 and 2021 they ā€œsaved the membership and organization millionsā€ of dollars in research, legal fees, etcā€¦. negotiating a new contract and just extending the old one.

Now they have to spend money on something, look at all the international conferences we still send Trish on to Trinidad and Tobago or wherever the fuck it was and the places Santa and LoBodvide go to monthly.

Maybe if they saved too much money it would look weird and flag NATCA for an IRS audit or something.

NATCA donated $10,000 to IFATCA this year. So in a roundabout way it was all paid for by NATCA.
Do you consider that to be a significant sum of money for this organization?

Iā€™m really having trouble figuring what people here think this union should be doing, or spending money on. According to the majority here we shouldnā€™t hold a training conference to have knowledgeable reps, our NEB shouldnā€™t meet in person and be available for members to speak with, they shouldnā€™t meet with industry leaders and establish relationships with the companies that want to shape this profession to make their companyā€™s money. Im really not sure what you want them to do besides no renew one of the multiple contracts this union negotiates.

I feel like the majority of people here are so short sighted, they forget that over the years this union has demonstrated success upon success. Sure there were struggles along the way, as would be expected. This union has a stress tested roadmap to future success, but instead of following it weā€™d rather save money for god knows what, and isolate.

We think they should be negotiating our contract everytime itā€™s due for negotiation. That it. Thatā€™s the job.

Typically NEB members donā€™t sit on contract teams, or at the very least donā€™t make up more than one or two members of the teamā€¦..so what would you like them to do? Or should we just elect contract team members and put the organization on autopilot in between conventions, which ironically people here donā€™t think we should have eitherā€¦..

Then they can work airplanes

Then they can work airplanes
This is the problemā€¦..you fundamentally donā€™t understand what a labor union is or what the role of our national executive board is. We donā€™t elect these people to work airplanes with a title. We elect them to run the $30 million dollar a year organization that we are shareholders ofā€¦. The president of Natca is literally the CEO of Natca, itā€™s spelled out in the constitutionā€¦.if you want an organization that only operates to negotiate contracts, and wouldnā€™t even be able to do that effectively without respect from the industry, change the constitution and the makeup of this organization.

Negotiating contracts is the number 1 job if any union. The entire point of a union is so the employees can collectively bargain their pay and benefits. So I donā€™t think they should do much else until they actually do their number 1 task.

And just telling everyone to cha get the constitution isnā€™t an actually rebuttal. More people will just keep quitting the union as they no longer see a benefit. Theyā€™ll give themselves a raise if one wonā€™t be negotiated for them.

The reason you keep getting pointed to the constitution is because you are wrong about what the ā€œjobā€ of this organization isā€¦.the organization, controlled by its members has determined what the job of this organization is. Luckily it is governed by this document, instead of a message board. The body of this union has determined, in an order of priority, what this organizations job should be. If you think itā€™s wrong you should be trying to amend the constitution and make section one say ā€œ negotiate contractsā€ and make section two say ā€œwork traffic when not negotiating contractsā€.

Thereā€™s way more to the job than that but sure, many disagree with the decision to extend. As a side note it also wouldā€™ve cost a fuck ton to negotiate a new contract. I was a big supporter of the reup at the time but Iā€™m a bit more luke warm to it in hindsight. But I also believe it was destined to be bad timing regardless because the new contract wouldā€™ve been negotiated during a period of time where the FAA was flat broke and before the period of time in which the industry recovered to such a point where their labor went blast off rocket ship.

We pay dues so they can negotiate. How does it cost money to negotiate??

You donā€™t have a collectively bargained contract?
