All the non-24 hour TRACONs are under the new FAA Reauthorization.
Wait what? This is huge, probably deserves its own thread. There are 50+ non-24-hour up/downs, they're going to 804 every single one of them? What jackass thought that would be a good idea? Gonna be a looooooot of boring-ass Level 4 and Level 5 towers in the next decade...

Is this for real?

While it is not that specific, there is language in the new FAA Reauthorization that super charges consolidations. So would likely result in 5-6 up/downs all be consolidated. The towers would be level 4’s maybe one day they get contracted out and people get golden tickets. It would also promote lots of 7-8 up/downs up a level who absorb them. It would help staffing in the long run which is part of the reason why it is in there.

You would think…but looking at how bad CLE and CMH got fucked on 804..

They'll never contract out low level towers again imo. One of the largest fumbles in the FAAs history. Contract them out so we can provide worse service, with bigger staffing issues, and have no "control" over the companies.

CLE got more work but not enough for an upgrade, so doing more for the same money
Not to mention, the CPCs there had to go back into training to learn CAK/MFD airspace with little incentive. One time 1% cash bonus when starting to train and another 1% upon certification. So like 2-3k total for all the extra BS…again…the raise wasn’t into the base. It was a ONE time bonus.

Depends on how you look at it. They have more work in terms of more sectors, but most of them are the easiest positions in the building just like AZO. So you actually probably spend less time per day working true CLE approach and tower, resulting in less “work” in terms of plans worked and complexity.

For “Cleveland West”(old MFD) very true. For “Cleveland South”(old CAK), not so true. CAK airspace is kinda dumb and has a lot of student pilots from Kent State. Not fun to work.

Sometimes it’s not all about the money. We are providing a service to our country, which in my opinion is a great honor.

IIRC, when CMH absorbed DAY airspace, the CPC numbers didn’t really change that much, so you had the same number of bodies working double the airspace for no pay raise.
