It can be costly to extend the length of training. Just imagine, the academy is the basics of the whole career, a foundation of knowledge if you will. Once the graduates end up at a facility it can be multiple years of additional training before they're certified. If someone isn't able to learn the foundation in an amount of time deemed long enough, do you think they will pick up more advanced training at a facility? I pray that I am able to pick up the basics, graduate and make it to a facility. If not then I have to accept I didn't have what it takes then move on. Failure to understand the work isn't just someone missing out on a career, it could potentially mean the lives of others being in danger because someone wasn't sure on how to do their job.
