New time off between shifts mandate. Big change

I really don’t think it changes staffing at all. You’ll likely just be working straight shifts. The coverage won’t change.

I think the interim fix will be basically the changes shown or allowing admin leave for mid workers. The long-term negotiation is where I think it gets interesting

This is a perfect example of why the 12 hour rule won’t necessarily solve fatigue. One of the big problems with the rattler (at least for me) is the start times constantly pushing earlier to where on the 6-2 I don’t get anywhere close to a full night of sleep the day before. So the extra 4 hours between day shift and mid won’t help, maybe I can get some sleep but it won’t be enough to then work all night.

One thought I had was for the mid crew to be on 10hr days, but this won’t work in every facility and still has its own issues. One advantage would be the guaranteed “RDO” on day 4 because they couldn’t assign OT before the mid.

The upside of all this is that well staffed facilities will essentially have the agency's blessing to negotiate some great lines with management and not worry about push back.

The down side is that some of you seem to be oblivious to the threat of the reverse rattler or split RDOs with the mid in the middle. Plus increased OT to account for the changes.

This is going to remove a lot of extra shifts 24 hour facilities currently utilize like the 1500-2300 shift.

Personally I could see a new mid shift week looking something along the lines of:

1400-2200
1200-2000
0700-1500
This is where it gets tricky… Either a 0200-1000 shift to be in compliance or move all mid shifts to a 0000 start time and do something like a 0400-1200 shift for fourth day.

We’ve had this schedule for a long time and it’s great. I don’t think I could ever go back to the rattler. 3 sets of RDOs. The seventh day that isn’t covered is fat and you can use it for a training day, spot leave, etc. We alternate weeks of days and weeks of nights. Each set of RDOs has volunteer straight mid people so we only work mids when they’re on vacation or on OT when they bang. It’s just a healthier schedule than the rattler

That 530 to 800 stretch is rough but other then that, I wouldn't mind this schedule.

You work straight days, straight swings or straight mids. Bid by seniority.
During the apocalypse, our shifts were 6am-2pm; 2pm-10pm and 10pm-6am. Whatever shift you had, you worked five in a row. The solution will probably look something like that.

All these reverse rattlers and straight lines rotating mids can eat a dick. We are not going for these changes, they can’t be dictated without negotiations. If they want them that bad they can also renegotiate the slate book to get them.
