LOUD NOISES

Wait until you have 18 or 20 years of Federal service under your belt and see how you feel about working to change/improve the system. Fed.gov and all of its agencies are behemoths of bureaucracy. Even those select few with pure and noble ideals who become management in an effort to change it can't succeed. They are met with threats and intimidation, quickly succumbing to the pressure, acquiescing and being welcomed into the machine. This machine tells them what to dream, not to dream for themselves or others. Unfortunately, no one can be told how it is. You'll have to see it for yourself.

Unfortunately this is 100% true, and then the people who are truly talented and motivated get frustrated and leave government service the first day they are eligible for a pension or partial pension and go make huge money and waves in the private sector or as contractors. So 99% of the time when you see in a resume or bio "25+ years of federal service" it means that person sucks, and the more years the bigger they suck typically, just look at Dr. Fauci.

"handshakes may be dead forever" , next day "Tinder hookups are cool". Guy is eating up his moment in the sun... which is good because UV rays kill Covid better than chugging a big gulp of Clorox

If you don't work to improve the system you're part of the problem, not the solution. That's a poor mentality.

make sure to put lots of "trainee comments" on your training evals. ppl love that.

Oh my god, some dude in the hiring thread just said the FAA should be paying people that have to drive to the ATSA. ? seriously, I don’t think some of these people could possibly be any more entitled. These are people that literally haven’t even finished the first hiring step and think they deserve a check from the agency. Wow.

Ya’ll are savages. Give these newbies a break . . . Most of them have not worked for the government or even applied for a government job. Having come from the corporate world the difference is night and day. I don’t think I have ever paid for any travel or expenses related to interviewing nor would I expect to in the “real world”. Maybe that makes me entitled but I’d argue otherwise as companies need to do this to attract competitive candidates in the open market. The FAA is a different story as the standards seem pretty low to make it to the academy and we are treated so.

I get that there are some vast differences between hiring in the private sector vs. with the government, but there should be a little common sense involved with some of these complaints a few of these guys spew out. In the corporate world, they weed through tons of applicants’ resumes. By the time they get to inviting people to interviews, it’s down to a select few, and that interview is basically the last step in the process.

With ATC however, virtually everyone who meets the minimum qualifications is invited to the ATSA, which is basically an extension of the application process. Suggesting the government should shell out millions of taxpayer dollars to pay for people to get to testing sites is insanity.

For the record, I think it’s ridiculous that people find joy in yelling at new folks.

But in my time in the private sector, I’ve never been paid to drive to an interview. And the government DOES pay for the ATSA, drug tests, medical exams, and whatever else is involved in the normal hiring process.

I agree there’s no need to go after anybody just for being new, but if they wanna say really dumb shit like they should be getting compensation to take the ATSA, or complaining that they may have to drive more than 30 mins, they should expect some lighthearted ribbing. If these guys walked into a facility and sat down with a trainer with that type entitlement/whiny behavior, they’d get a whole lot more than a snarky comment.

I take your point about the ribbing; I might have my too-serious goggles on

I don't have a problem with new folks. I have a problem with new folks that want to tell you that the system is broken when they don't even understand how it presently works, don't even understand how you move within the pay scales but then tell you to plant some seeds for them so they can enjoy the shade. Stay right there, let me just go grab some of my COVID haul of TP so I can wipe their ass too.
