Your ATM was correct in telling them you didn't have any radar experience. Just going to RTF does nothing for you if you ask me. Kc has some amazing bbq. Ever been to q39?

It's more of making sure the ATM is giving an accurate representation. Q39 is alright, but I prefer Slaps or KC Joe's, but only the orginal.

ATMs also like people who certified...

But seriously... From the sounds of things, you washed at an up down or some sort of approach facility... Went tower only... Made CPC... And now want to go to another up down or approach facility. No shame in that, good luck. However; I would hope an ATMs deciding factor when choosing tower only CPCs isn't whether or not they've already been to RTF.

I agree with the reasoning, but not all radar facilities are the same....he may have certified on 3-4 radar positions and didn't make it on the last one. Still has more radar experience than a person at a level 5 up/down that only has one radar position but did get certified.

That's why it's important I think to call the ATM of a facility you're interested in to give them any info you want that may help your case.

your paperwork will reflect your training as well. you should have reached out and networked a little and at least talk to the facrep where you were trying to go.

Little off topic, but regarding the convo above...
I was trying to go to an up/down 2 levels higher than mine, and was in the last weeks of training trying to soak up time to reach the min time. Facility was making selections and I had multiple meetings with FACREP/ATM, things looked good as they were selecting a lot. Ended up not getting selected since my paperwork didn’t reflect CPC even though I was by the time of selection. FACREP told me the first thing they looked for was radar cpc, everyone of those got selected, then they selected from tower CPCs. People from lower level facs with no radar were selected over me.

Another fac, 12 tracon, said they want people from lvl 8 and up. Advised transferring to a lvl8 tower in the area then trying to go to the tracon. Apparently a lvl 8 tower trumps a lvl 7 radar for a lvl12 radar facility.

TL;DR
In my experience there’s only two things people look for: level and CPC. Nothing else really matters.

This is definitely useful information. But it is different at many different places. I spoke to a 12 Tracon rep would said they generally rank based on facility level first and another 12 Tracon rep who said they rank based on radar exp first in order of facility level and then tower exp second based on facility level implying they might rank a lower rated Tracon control over a 12 tower only controller.
I also spoke to a rep at a center and it was clear that they valued the effort a controller put in to reach out and prove they really wanted to be there over facility level and that sentiment was reflected in the selections as I monitored them closely each round.

they were selecting a lot.
Out of all their selections, 14 I think they were authorized, only like 5 of us showed up.
Same thing for the announcement before that, about a dozen selections and only a few showed up.
One couple had a 2 year release date and they both canceled the weekend before the start date.

Yeah, I followed it pretty closely. Really rubbing salt in the wound. Microcosm of my time in the FAA.

So I was on vacation last time one of these things happened.... remind me again whether its tmw or friday I need to be refreshing like a motherfucker on the natca website and around when?

If your selected for an ERR they publish it on the NATCA website? Just wondering how you're informed if you are chosen. The FAA Region office called me the other day saying they received my paperwork. I know I am not eligible this panel.

NCEPT selections are posted on the NATCA site, the KSN, and then here as well. You'll be notified by FAA HR in the week(s) following when they send you your TOL.

Normally the boards have been convening on a Monday, or at least early in the week. Since it is Thursday this time, when are we expecting to see a list posted?

A Thursday meeting is standard for the NCEPT team. The 3rd quarter 2017 NCEPT was the only one that met on a Wednesday this past year. They meet on Thursday and typically release the results mid-day on Friday.

Wow, I don't know why I thought it was happening earlier in the week. Good to know...thanks!
