I’m also curious as to how many controllers are struggling to sell their homes as they prepare to transfer from previous NCEPT panels, given the ravaging pandemic and all.
Houses are actually flying off the market right now. The normal spring buying rush got pushed back due to covid and interest rates on mortgages are crazy low.

I sold my house in Auburn WA for 60k above asking and got the offer the night of putting it on the market, that was late May.

The market seems to be doing great still. Around me any good house that isn’t 100k too much is snatched up in days.

That’s because agencies backed by billionaires are buying houses for 5% over asking price and paying cash so they can turn them around and offer them for rent.

It is ridiculous to think trainees shouldn’t buy houses. Especially at a center with a 2-3 year training program. Why should they throw their money away renting when they can invest? CPCs who take it personally are D Bags.

I don’t care. I said it to try and trigger people. I was told that when I started, I don’t tell people that. People have families and such and have to live their lives and make their own decisions.

However, sometimes people are trying to help.

Like if a low level tower only person goes to A80 and Robertb tells them they have only Had one tower controller (from ATL) be successful here, and maybe they want to hold off on that house purchase... Is that being an asshole, or maybe just tying to help?

Some people will get instantly triggered because they think they are gods gift to ATC, and that guy is just wrong. Some more thoughtful people may take it to heart and might look at their own abilities.

Then again a bag of dog food could certify now.

oh I get that. On my last transfer I told the wife since I was a 2 time center puke and was going to a terminal, I didn’t want to buy another house right away. She overruled me and liquidated some stock and bought it cash. I married up. I was done quick there anyway, so I guess she was right.

Yep, these new guys didn't have to work pre covid traffic like we did. Better not see them changing their tags either.

I don’t care what level traffic get certified on. Can’t wait forever And if it they go down the shitter and take the room with them if they can’t ramp up it will be what it will be. At some point training has to start again.

There have been a few (four I think total since the facilities split) from ATL certify at A80, but that’s the only tower only transfer facility to certify. People might think I’m an ass, but I’m just trying to be honest with them. I don’t believe it is in someone’s best interest to buy a house during training. Why add another potential stress when your number one goal is to get certified?
The housing market has been hit hard here with aviation cut backs and the movie industry taking a hammering. I’ve dropped the price of my house over 5% and still can’t get a buyer and that’s with it 10% below the appraised value! The only people buying houses are REALLY secure in their career fields and most are paying a premium to buy a new house versus a three year old house.

This is happening in most of the country. Except in major urban areas, which are seeing historic devaluation. There is low stock (ppl hunkering down to weather Covid), and all time low interest rates making houses more affordable to people who make less. Who knows when this bubble will burst, but for now the federal reserve is hell bent on printing trillions as long as they have ink.
